General Information

The Salle du Lion Fencing Club was founded in the summer of 1998. We started out as a bunch of enthusiasts in the basement of a local YMCA in 1991. When our group outgrew the basement, we moved to our very own Fencing Center in Sharonville (Cincinnati), Ohio. We have approximately 6,000 square feet of hardwood floors housed in a former church and school. At present, the Club owns 4 permanent strips, with capabilities for at least 4 more.

With one of the strongest youth programs in the Midwest, Salle Du Lion is quickly gaining a reputation for building champions. But we do it differently: Our students are taught to focus on the joy of self- improvement and to "forget about winning". They learn to appreciate the contribution of others, value what they have to offer, how to enjoy the process of self-improvement, and get a great work-out as well! They learn how to deal with frustration, control anger and remain cool under pressure. Fencing improves hand-eye coordination, balance, timing, strength, and reflex management. But the best part is... it's a lot of fun!

Beginners Read This

A. Beginners' Class: This is structured to give someone who has never fenced before a good idea of what the sport is about. This is a mixed age group and is intended to familiarize the student with the equipment, the sport, and the structure of the class. After a few classes, the student should be ready to move on to their specific age group. If your schedule does not allow you to attend the beginners' class, you may still atend the class for your age group.
B. What to Wear: You should wear regular workout clothes and gym shoes to the beginners' class. After a few weeks, you will want to wear light denim pants with room to move, or a pair of fencing knickers or baseball pants (preferably white).
C. Age-Level Classes: We have divided the classes into two age groups this session. Each age group will have fencers of varying degrees of experience.
D. You May Take More Than One Class: By selecting a class time you guarantee yourself a spot in that class. This means that you will get personal instruction during that class time. If you wish to attend more than one class a week, you may do so. However, personal instruction will be given to those who are registered for that class.
